How to paint by numbers

Materials
A pre-printed canvas with numbered areas, numbered acrylic paint pots, two or three brushes (fine and medium), a glass of water and a cloth.
Steps
1. Work in daylight with the canvas flat. 2. Open one colour at a time and close it after use. 3. Paint colour by colour, starting with the darkest, or top to bottom so your hand never rests on wet paint. 4. Cover numbers and outlines fully: two thin coats beat one thick coat.
Pro tips
Use the fine brush for small areas and edges, rinse between colours, add a drop of water to thickened paint. Made a mistake? Let it dry and paint over it: acrylic covers well.
